After a relatively quiet summer due in no small part to a devastating flood which made a mess of their warehouse Metropolis are putting forth a number of Singles, both new and old this month. “President” comes from IAMX‘s The Alternative release and this Single is a lean offering that features the original album mix, a spare acoustic version that adds new emotional context to the song and a wonky “Accident” remix that won’t make this strange little theatrical number any more palatable to club floors. There’s also a “Basement” video of “President” included. With a new IAMX album on the way in the next six months or so and die-hards still salivating over the first two albums some might find this of interest. It isn’t as though Chris Corner has given any indication thus far that he can do any wrong.
It’s been well over a year since Rotersand presented us with 1023 and now they provide a “companion” release in the I Cry EP featuring two remixes of “I Cry,” different mixes of four other 1023 cuts and a couple new tracks that are so-so. If you enjoyed the album you’re going to want this brief collection as it highlights some of 1023‘s best moments and augments them with mostly satisfying, if somewhat unadventurous, remixes – the exception being an electrified reworking of “Shelter” that includes shuffling digital rhythms and a static-laced ambient hum throughout which is texturally fascinating. At the very least it will tide you over until the act puts together something a little more substantial. And with a running time just over forty-five minutes you shouldn’t fret about getting your money’s worth. The original album was only about ten minutes longer.
And then there’s Apoptygma Berzerk‘s The Singles Collection, a two disc, limited edition collection of remastered hits from the act’s near-20 year history. Beginning as a straight EBM act in the late Eighties Apop has displayed the tendency toward disappearing for lengthy periods of time only to resurface sounding almost completely different and this particular collection reflects that somewhat. The first disc features more recent material, in particular all six mixes of the Futurepop anthem “Kathy’s Song” from the out of print Single. Filling out the rest of the disc are two more tracks from Welcome To Earth along with their remixes, and “Mourn” from 1996′s 7. The second disc digs deep celebrating some of the act’s less popular but far more stirring recorded moments in their early years. Even if you already have all their albums this set includes rare and difficult to find remixes that are of a higher sound quality so it’s definitely a treat for fans and newcomers alike.

Not to impressed with Rotersand and IMAX. But I’m interested to hear how some of older APB stuff sounds.
However, I hope this doesn’t bring back that stupid trend of playing a different remix of Kathy’s Song or Eclipse at every club night.
