More (GREAT) Free Music!

October 13th, 2008 by Christopher

It’s difficult for me to contain my excitement regarding the Tympanik Audio label. I adore their ethic, their allegiance to the fans and the incredible quality of their material. In an time when “try-before-you-buy” has become a kind of mantra for torrent users everywhere you can always be assured that the music you order from this label is going to be better and smarter than most anything you find elsewhere. I like smart. And here’s an instance where I can put my (and your) money where my big, fat mouth is.

Frank Mokros of New York has gained a name for himself through the Breakcore/Industrial outfit Synth-etik on Hands Productions (see P_machine’s latest post regarding Hands). Totakeke is his deeper, more ambient side come to light. eLekatota: The Other Side of the Tracks, released earlier this year, is a stunning work that features songs which don’t progress so much as evolve while the precious seconds tick by. Take the best and most atmospheric aspects of Aphex Twin and Future Sound Of London, give them an earthy grounding and add just a sprinkle of the moody malevolence found in Skinny Puppy’s best and darkest works and you get an idea where Totakeke is coming from. I recently received Mokros latest offering, a remix album titled Forgotten On The Other Side Of The Tracks (review forthcoming), but you can now get a sample of this amazing music for free via the Tympanik Audio website. Past:Present:Future features selections from the entire Totakeke discography including 4 new tracks from the upcoming DCD full-length album The Things That Disappear When I Close My Eyes, slated for release in early 2009.
