Skulls, Bones and Unicorns

Stoked About ohGr

November 25th, 2008 by Christopher

Certain to be one of the better and more interesting shows to hit the Twin Towns in recent months, ohGr will be performing at Station 4 this Saturday in support of their latest album, Devils In My Details, a dark and dizzying whirlwind of an album that needs to be experienced from beginning to end. From the Jesus Built My Hotrod-filtered-through-a-tornado opener, “Shhh,” to the transcendent anthem “Witness” – one of the many tracks to feature twisted, free form poetry spoken by actor Bill Moseley with malevolent glee – this astounding piece of work surpasses both 2001′s much adored Welt and 2003′s SunnyPsyOp in atmosphere, energy, scope and depth. The way the whole thing comes together and unravels is marvelous. There’s never a dull moment in the entire inspired set. Eschewing the Pop sensibilities for which the act is known in favor of sinister experimentation Ogre and collaborator Mark Walk have managed to elevate this project to much greater heights. Devils In My Details is a must-own album.

The live show will, of course, feature the requisite creepy costuming and unnerving, low budget effects. You can check out footage of the recent San Francisco show courtesy of Noisescape TV via Quicktime (High Resolution) or YouTube (Low Resolution), featuring “Shhh” and “Eyecandy.”

If you would rather be surprised come showtime than check out Noisescape’s interview with Nivek Ogre, a man who makes a great interview subject because he never seems to run out of things to talk about. He can make any mediocre interviewer look like a genius.
