Is there a single Wumpertrooper left standing?

February 12th, 2009 by P_machine

So it’s that time of year again, time for one of the bi-annual Wumpscut (website) new-album-releases…

I remember a time long-long ago, when I was a confused teenager, standing in a record store in front of the cd store’s industrial section. Before the days of the multimedia-infested-internet, it use to be nerve racking, being-there, in the moment, experiencing the “angst” of not knowing what to buy, and knowing full well the store employees would be of no help. Well one of those fateful days, I walked out with Wumpscut’s “Music For A Slaughter Tribe.”

I don’t think it was a magical moment, I recall liking a few of the tracks. But in retrospect, I came to appreciate the album quite a bit. Though I was always a bit confused by the kids that found it necessary to buy everything Wumpscut put out – the ones that had several different copies of Bunkertor7 and multiple :W: t-shirts. But are any of those fan-atics still around?

Ever since Bone Peeler (his best cd in my humble opinion), Wumpscut has had a consistent output of 2 mediocre albums a year (one of new material, and another of old material). This year is obviously no exception…

You can already order the new albums “Fuckit” and “Bunkertor Re:Sample” double disc from the “Wumpshop.” As always, there’s various “limited” Wumpcrap you can buy along with the releases. Now the real question is, will either of these actually stand out in memory or just fade into the blur, which has been the last 7 years of wumpscut releases? Previews of “Fuckit” (available on the website) are too short to form an educated guess. The title track, “Fuckit,” seems catchy enough but nothing new/special. As far as the new version of “Bunkertor,” which contains all your favorite Wumphits re-worked… I don’t think this is necessary, but after hearing the re:sampled version of “Thorns,” I was amused. Have you ever wanted to know what “Thorns” would sound like overlayed with the bassline from that Peaches song you heard on the radio 5 years ago? Well, here’s your chance.

(as a sidenote: I really wish DJs would strike “Soylent Green,” “Thorns,” and “Christfuck” from their rotations… the horse has been beaten to death).

I recall reports of Hot Topic pushing Combichrist and VNV nation paraphonelia.
