Skulls, Bones and Unicorns

Sigh

Who knows what it means? Maybe it’s her name or perhaps just an online handle. In any event it’s the moniker she’s chosen with which to broadcast the music that flows from her own soul (if you believe in such a concept). It’s her innermost feelings, her desires, her longings transcribed to a digital configuration of stirring sounds that are at once familiar and yet alluringly unique.

I am enamored. If you read my review for Erica Dunham of Unter Null’s recent side-project Stray and pursued it with interest, finding a comforting bit of noise which “strayed” beyond the norm, you’re going to want to investigate Cybo – a wholly independent artist out of Brooklyn creating ethereal strains that touch on Industrial and IDM. Listening to a track like “Human Light,” with its soft, skittering beat and heart-pounding bass uplifted by spare vocal intonations and plenty of atmospheric wonder I’m reminded of the power exuded by an act like Lamb where the driving percussion isn’t overbearing in the face of the emotive acquiescence. This is gorgeous expression granted wings by a singular voice.

Music can be purchased as a download at her website, including that of an alternate project called Obyc which is more guitar driven though just as satisfyingly lilting.

You really should check her work out.
