Kinetic Festival is Montreal, Canada’s premier Industrial event and every spring the faithful make the trek up into the frozen (though, at this time of year slowly thawing) tundra for three days (make that four now) to endure the constant thundering percussion of many, many Industrial, EBM and Synth Pop acts. Seems ironic that this gathering was called COMA for years before the switch to “Kinetic.”

Anyway, festivals such as this are the way to go when you’re into these styles of music. Yeah, it sucks having to make the trip (Canada? Really?) and getting the time off work can be difficult if not impossible but considering that many acts are forgoing the extended tours due to the unpredictable nature of local scenes (who wants to show up to a city and play for five people after you get done spending all that money on gas and food and…I dunno, hookers and blow?) there are a growing number of great artists who are downsizing their public performances to festival dates exclusively.

Now it isn’t that I want to discourage you from attending. If you can afford the trip and can actually get your boss to agree to losing you for a few days then by all means have yourself an adventure. But if it’s just not feasible, of if it’s downright impossible (count me in with the impossible crowd) you can always order yourself up a copy of Artoffact’s Kinetik Festival Volume 2 compilation for less than twenty bucks (free shipping!).
