Scott Albert. Recognize the name? How about Circle Of Dust? Argyle Park? These days he operates under the irritating stage name “Klayton” for some reason (I think I once read it had something to do with molding clay or some such nonsense) and his band is called Celldweller.
Now, I used to dig Circle Of Dust way back when. The electronics were hard, the guitars were heavy and Albert had a wicked sense of melody. I never really got into Celldweller because he seemed to really lose that off-kilter melodic touch and the music became much more accessible/predictable. It’s like the difference between Filter’s first album and all the Pop crap they’ve put out since.
In any case, Mr. Klayton is showcasing a few new tracks as a free download this week only and you can access them here until the 24th. They’re not necessarily bad and if you’re into that Orgy/Julien K stuff or any sort of poppy electro rock you’ll at least want to check this out.
Celldweller’s latest album, Wish Upon a Blackstar, is being released in five two-song chapters for reasons that defy logic and the final two songs in the collection will only be included on the physical CD.
So, ummm…yeah. Put that in your pipe and smoke it.
