Sarcasm aside, this movie is funny and since I haven’t seen it, I can say that with a straight face. We only report the facts… or something we read in the internet. Everything on the internet is true.

I know the masochist in you wants to know what this thing is about and so you should. It has vampires, college students, coeds and hijinks. Do you need more than that? Yes? Ok, foreign exchange students from the US (and not the kind of students who actually study abroad, how boring) head to Razvan University only to find it isn’t anything like they expected. Vampires! OMG! Vampires!

Damn straight and guess who gets to tackle the blood suckers? You know it! Students! Fuck the army, we’ve got coeds.

Sadly we had a pile of preview passes to hand out which means I would have seen it, but due to some really shitty circumstances, Castle DTC still has a pile of preview passes and no way to distribute them. Next time!

While you’re waiting for us to get our act together, make a note. The movie opens December 4th and promises to be full of butt jokes, pot jokes, hot chicks, bad acting and all the other stuff that makes these movies funny and if you don’t think this stuff is funny, you’re a liar. I’ve seen your Monty Python collection. You’re never going to grow up.

Unknown Faktor

Ben DeWalt is widely known through his Terrorfakt moniker but since ’02 he’s also been releasing material under the name T-Faktor which deviates ever-so-slightly from his main project in sound and approach. It’s not a major style shift really and after putting out Terrorfakt Presents T-Faktor – Music From Antartica – A Collection Of B-Sides And Outtakes he’s mostly just done remixes and made compilation appearances.

Metropolis Records recently put out a Terrorfakt CD that was a hodgepodge of rare and unreleased material along with some newer remixes and the like. Dewalt plans on putting out a full length from T-Faktor called Bricksplitter soon but to whet your appetite Forces Of Nature is offering an eighteen track free download with a few new songs and a helluva lot of remixes. Did I mention it’s free? Yeah. If you’re a Terrorfakt fan you’re going to want to head on over to the Force Of Nature site and get in on this quick.

“Bricks And Thunder” almost has a Hip Hop feel to it but with sheets of layered distortion over the top. “Derailer” has an incredibly infectious rhythm and some hydraulic-inspired electronics while “Go On Home” is a minimalist ticker that builds in an impressively understated fashion for its brief length. Remixes include great efforts by some of our favorites around here; Cenotype, Caustic, Synnack, Prometheus Burning, The Vomit Arsonist, scrap.edx and nine others.

END Justifies The Means

Touring the country at this moment is a chap from North Carolina who goes by the name END: The DJ. He’ll be bringing his mad mixes to the Twin Towns this evening for a free performance at our own Hard Mondays (The Saloon @ 9th & Hennipen). He’s big on the stomp and crunch so you’re not going to want to miss this. Expect the dancefloor to quake. For those of you non-locals be sure to check out his MySpace page for a potential date scheduled near you. Hopefully you’ll get some good stretching in before hitting the club because it’s going to take some athleticism to make it through his aggressive setlist.

And if you’re not particularly athletic you can at least be an athletic supporter.

Dreamy

So James Church certainly isn’t one to rest on his laurels. Since his Tympanik Audio debut, Gravedigger, was released last August (review), he has put out another amazing album with his side project, Pandora’s Black Book (review) as well as a new remix album.

But why stop there? I’m a little sketchy on the details of this but apparently it has something to do with Church asking his friends to describe in full detail their dreams and from that he would create a soundtrack that echoes the major plot points. Or something. In any case, it all adds up to more new music from Lucidstatic. And the best part is that it’s being offered for free courtesy of the German netlabel Crazy Language.

Just head on over to CL’s MySpace and you can download this unexpected little gem lickety split. Nooo shit.

It’s an interesting mixture of styles and sounds. I don’t think the work compares to his other material but it’s a pretty damn interesting and eclectic collection you’ll most likely enjoy.

Our Ruine

Not to beat a dead horse but our friends in Alter Der Ruine put out a free, downloadable remix EP/kind-of-a-single thing last week. It features a few reworkings of the track “Relax And Ride It” from their last album, Giants From Far Away, as well as a great new song called “Loud And Sassy.”

Apparently the ADR crew is working on a new double disc and they also have some new music up on the page for their synth pop side-project Dust is Noise. They’re currently embroiled in an east coast tour with Nachtmar. That means it’s yet another ADR tour that completely misses the Twin Cities.

Making The Connection

Melding Electro/Industrial with Breakbeat, Dubstep and a smattering of Hip Hop sensibility rooted in an affinity for Eighties Synthpop and classic Funk, UK act Somatic Responses have been engaging in their own unique brand of audio experimentation for almost fifteen years. Their list of releases is too long to even delve into here but their latest effort is actually a free download you’ll want to check out, especially considering they’re offering it for free. Titled Mercury, this outing leans more toward furthering their Dubstep inclinations and presents 10 tracks of gritty, bass heavy electronic armageddon that inspires enough awe to ensure any listener will be convinced their longevity is well-deserved.

Stay Lucid

I seem to be having a difficult time keeping up with James Church as of late.

Church is the mind behind the brilliant Lucidstatic project out of Alaska. You can read our review of last year’s Gravedigger right here.

I’m currently working on a review for his latest project, Pandora’s Black Book and now comes word that he’s released a digital-only remix companion to Gravedigger called Unearthed. There are sixteen tracks and they’re all pretty wild reinterpretations of some already complex breakbeats.

If you just want the remixes it will cost you five dollars. But you can get it for free if you order up a copy of Gravedigger at the Tympanik Audio webshop. For only twelve dollars you can have 33 amazing, mindbending tracks.

I’d say that’s a pretty friggin’ good deal.
