... and how much more fun to play, and how much money I'll save, by waiting 2 years before buying one.

What kind of life do you have if you will camp out for days just to get one?

John Edwards, vice-presidential candidate does two things of note: touring the country bashing Walmart while sending an un-paid volunteer to crash the line and buy a Playstation-3 ...AT WAL-MART!

Last X-mas I got a GameStop gift card but there weren't any games worth buying, and I actually thought to myself
"You know, self, I should use this to reserve a PS3 to immediately resell on ebay".
But then I thought,
"Nawwww, Sony is better-organized than Microsnot, it won't be like the Xbox360 launch".

Man, when I'm wrong, I'm really wrong.

You might think the people camping out to buy a PS3 on the release date are stupid. Not really. Most of them will double their money or better, which (do the math!) is pretty damn good pay for a night's work!! The actual stupid people are the ones who buy systems from those people for >2X retail price. Just so they can play the, what, 1 or 2 launch titles that might be $60 worth of fun? Pfffft.

doubling money would be a low price sale.

these things are selling like crazy on ebay for a LOT of money.

what kind of idiot with no life camps out for a day and buys one of these things?

a smart investor.

i'll wait to buy one til they have, like, you know, games.

practicing guitar every day and geeking out about equipment minutia of stuff that qualified as antique about 30 years ago turns you into a washed up, bald, overweight, and bitter guitar teacher, twice divorced, as soon as you hit middle age and finally give up on fruitless rock star fantasies.

but who gives a shit? both are a hell of a lot of fun.

the ps3 launch games dont look too interesting to me, i'll wait a bit before i pick one up. and that wii controller is just....weird.

No comparison, playing music to playing mind-numbing games.

I do practice almost every day. It's good for the soul, the mind, the body. I don't think you can say that about twiddling your thumbs on a plastic controller while watching a video screen.

you have a point.

also, in the same exact line of thinking, chess players are morons because they play chess.

go? its for idiots. in fact, it MAKES idiots.

guitar players, tho?

smartest and most spiritually complete people ON THE PLANET. i can think of no greater role model than any given lead guitarist.

also they are in fantastic shape, as practicing plucking a string and flexing a whammy bar is such a fantastic fucking workout. (as you so gratefully pointed out)

dont be a fucking moron. playing video games is a few things: escapism and puzzle solving come most readily to mind. there are actually studies that show video gaming makes better athletes. not a joke. weird, but not a joke. and the puzzle solving and stratagems developed by modern gamers is uncanny. the techniques used by 12 year olds on 'america's army' are being put to physical use in combat situations. (not that i support any sort of militarism, i am merely arguing the utility of video games as an extremely useful mental excersize)

guitar playing only makes conceited assholes.

like you, zom zom.

also, like me. (wheee!)

tho studies show that studying music DOES improve mathematics abilities. (i'm good at the math....but i got into music after math) although that applies to music theory. not to geeking out about what 70's amp is better because it has slight distortion at a specific gain level.

anywho. my point is: why dismiss video games? it doesn't turn people into idiots, that is a completely insane idea. and its an idea from the same generation that thinks that, because i create a doom map based on my school, that will cause me to shoot people. i've never shot anyone. i've played video games since i was 4. i managed to obtain multiple collegiate degrees, a good job, and STILL have the creative output to play and write in 3 bands.

do a little fucking resarch and back the fuck off. sitting in your room noodling on a guitar does NOT make you a better human being than me sitting in my room leveling my FF characters. neither of us is making a dime on it. playing video games does, on occasion, inspire me to write stuff. so the creativity engine isn't killed by it. so who cares? why come on here and say that playing a game turns people into idiots? i just don't get it.

Looks like playing mind-numbing video games makes one quite sensitive too.

Technically a bit off-topic, but...

I got to see a couple Nintendo Wiii (plural for Wii??) in action today, running a few different games. Wow. I was underwhelmed. If this is the "next" gen of game console, maybe I'll just skip a generation.

Maybe in a year or two there will be games out that take full advantage of the capabilities (graphics-wise, and the gimmick-heavy controller). But for now, I think there's more fun to be had in my partially-explored collection of clearance-priced Dreamcast games.

or use an atari as a midi controller/sampler.

or a gameboy as a tone generator.

or a ps3/360 as a linux box.

I would blame co-fronting.

guitar playing tends to turn one into a hystrionic primadonna.

video games? guitars? GUITAR HERO!

booze and a group of friends is recommended, otherwise the novelty wears off fast
