I've got the same name over there.

Have you found it hard to keep from getting accounts on all the bloggy-site things out there?
"You should be on Facebook!"
"Are you on blogger yet?"
"Get an account on BlogNutz with me! My handle is 'left one'!"

Well, I know it's not nearly as feature rich as this board ;), but it's still another good way to stay in touch with friends.

I don't give a damn about the politics/mainstream popularity of it.

(Granted all the friend/band whoring that goes on, gets a little annoying.)

I have one, but I don't really access it.

You see, the stupid filter on my computer blocks every kind of internet community, and as such, I can never update one sufficiently.

Sure, I go into these things with the best intentions, but then, I slowly dissapear, and most people think I don't care.

Most of the time I don't actually care, anyway, but I'd rather it be my own apathy rather than a stupid enforcement of someone else's morality over me that I fail.

I think it's so cute that being a myspace hater is so trendy these days :)

I joined quite a few months ago, I find it really cool for music and networking, and keeping up on shows and announcements, and just to dick around with real life/internet friends.

You mean I actually have to like MySpace now to be cool?

Screw that, I still hate it. If I'm going to suck on corporate dick, I'd rather be paid for it in the process.

No, I was saying that hating on it has become cool nowadays.

I don't consider having a profile sucking corporate dick, especially when it's good for a lot of things for me personally.

Don't worry about GCHE
He's the curmudgeony old guy who's seen it all and thinks that everything sucks
Think of him as Gothling's very own Grumpy Smurf
That way he will be kinda cute while telling you that you are less of a person for liking what you like
Although he is good for pointing out the stick up people's asses
I'd say he's about 50/50
But that's what happens when you do it with the board owner
You start thinking your opinion actually means something

Oh yeah

Brandon and Ben Curtis lived in Dallas in the mid 90's and had a band called UFOFU
It was a quirky pop band with interesting time signatures and arrangements
Not enough to be over the top like Primus or anything, just enough to be different from all the other pop stuff at the time
When I heard they were doing a "psychadelic" pop band I was very interested to hear them
They came to Dallas and the show was packed
I missed it but I picked up the album Now here is nowhere
Ehhh
It was OK
Not as over the top as I thought it would be
Everyone drools over this band but it sound like a slightly better veresion of all the other emo crap thats out there right now

Now, I'm not saying Primus is a bad band in the least. I have on of their albums, and may be interested in buying more. However, what I tend to focus on, are lyrics. Primus has some entertaining lyrics, to be sure, and sometimes even meaningful important ones, however their main strength is their musical production, (which is great), now, Secret Machines is decent musically, nothing to faint over (however, they move into far more progesssive areas than many of their contemporaries, I fail to see how Hawthorne Hieghts, or My Chemical Romance, with their simple candypunk driven formulas could be compared to the slow workings of Secret Machines piece), however, lyrically, I find them to be fantastic. In an age in which the average band is singing about either suicide, or some other mental abuse, Secret Machines seems to be taking the bill further, and going into fresher territory. Certainly their lyrics are still sad, however, their intropsections run deeper than many of their contemporaries, but their presentation varies in many more imaginative ways as well.

I am so goddamn obsessed with myspace, that I somehow forgot about livejournal, gothling, and friendster.

It's pretty fantastic. Strangers send me love letters. Lovers send me hate letters. It'd be great if it wasn't broken every goddamn day.

Go ahead and add me... :)

Hmm. Looks like a better question would be "Who here is not on MySpace?"

I don't. What with the number of people recently arrested/in trouble at school or work due to their MySpace postings, I am not very tempted.

That doesn't sound like a reason to not-have a myspace page.
That sounds like a reason to NOT post stupid illegal sh*t on your myspace page.

At least two cases that I know of did not involve anything illegal. And if being stupid is an arrestable offense now, we are soon to run out of prison space.

The one I remember offhand is a guy in NJ who had a picture of himself with a pistol. Nothing too horrible, not even a "I willl kill teh evaryone" caption. He got his house raided on suspicion of possession of a gun without a license. IIRC, the cops found nothing, but I'm sure you can imagine how much fun it was for him and what the state of his home was afterwards.

I really don't want to make a joke, and then have some well-meaning government turniphead misconstrue it into a terroristic threat. I hated Florida climate and I don't think Gitmo is that much different.

Umm, my sock-puppet lawyer says: "that doesn't even sound like 'search warrant' material to me."
Got a link to that story? Or is it just some urban legend?

All I could find during a cursory search was this and this, which are a far cry from the story you recounted...

I didn't have time to look it up today, but I'll see if I can find it. Meanwhile, from your link:

I actually registered for MySpace some time ago. The only reason I did was so I could read band journals. My only friend is "Tom," and that's fine by me. I'm not interested in gaining 700 friends on MySpace. I'm not interested in reading someone's shit journal on MySpace when they don't even have any music. I have a Livejournal, and Livejournal is way cooler than MySpace. It's also not nearly as ugly and difficult to navigate. MySpace is for people who don't mind sucking big, fat corporate dick. The site is a hideous eyesore that gives me a headache everytime I visit it. If you don't have a band, you shouldn't have a MySpace. It's widely populated by people who only recently acquired their pubes.

Okay, "Tom" isn't my only friend. I had to friend certain bands to read their journals. But so what? There aren't any regular people on my friends list. And I'm going to keep it that way.

I doubt that's the issue. GCHE has no apparent question of his own integrity or profundity. I think his point there was that LJ has a far, far superior interface and GUI, which is true.

You don't have to befriend anyone if you don't want too.

I'm not interested in reading someone's shit journal on MySpace when they don't even have any music.

Then don't.

It's also not nearly as ugly (as Livejournal).

You can make it pretty with the new easy to use profile editor!

MySpace is for people who don't mind sucking big, fat corporate dick.

It's pretty easy to disable the links and even hide the ads.

Okay, "Tom" isn't my only friend. I had to friend certain bands to read their journals..

And so it begins. Gabba-Gabba we accept you, we accept you one of us!

I like MySpace. You can attempt to befriend me in this superficial, ridiculous, self-absorbed web community if you like. If I deem you to be cool enough, I will approve your request. You may also befriend my band- we are far less selective.
