Hey,
Anyone here brew their own beer? Ive been mulling the idea and want to to know if any of you forum folk have any experience with the hobby. I mean, I spend enough on beer as it is so I think short term, the start up will pay for itself soon enough.

I've made mead and hard cider, but would love to try beer. Perhaps we should compare notes.

Always wanted to, never got around to putting the time and effort (and money) into it.

I've always been more into whiskey than beer anyway, but I'm told it's illegal for me to make on my own.

Yes it is. There are two reasons. Liquor is taxed fairly heavily. Making your own does an end-run around some tasty revenue. The other problem is that there is only one thing stills like to do more than make alcohol and that is explode.

I used to do some simple home brewing with a former roommate, but when we parted ways he took what little (cheap) equipment we had.

I know that there is a growing community of homebrewers who happen to live in the Tilsner Artist Co-Op in downtown St. Paul. They often swap equipment and recipes... some of them even grow their own ingredients.

Do they make a Tilsner Pilsner?

I couldn't care less about all that. I'm more concerned with aging something for two friggin' years only to realize it turned out like crap. I'm fine with paying thirty-five dollars for a jug of Jack every week.

INCORRECT! I've had 200proof moonshine and it was a horrible experience. After six tall shots I started making out with a hideously ugly woman and ended up with a hangover that lasted about 48 hours. Of course I had consumed about a half a keg of beer before the shots, but still...

I don't like moonshine. There's nothing to enjoy.
