Post The most impressive thing I have ever seen
The opening ceremonies of the Olympics was perhaps the most amazing thing I've ever witnessed in my life
The video screens gave me a huge boner but the most mind blowing aspect of this performance was the human element
If we ever needed an analogy for what this country is all about then this is it
God help us if we ever go to war with these people
We wouldn't stand a chance

Ask yourself this question
Could Americans pull off the feats of cooperation that the Chinese did?
Notice that there were no people directing the performers
The entire performance hinged on the ability of the individual to completely remove all individual thought and focus on being a miniscule fragment of a gigantic machine
We as Americans may have the "American Spirit' but we have proven ourselves as of late to be very selfish and single minded
The Chinese show that they can sacrifice just about anything for the common good of the country
We bitch when the slightest inconvenience slows down our day

Olympic fireworks digitally faked

Anyone who saw the opening to the Bejing Olympics would agree that the fireworks display was exceptional, but those watching at home were tricked into thinking what they saw was real, when some of it was actually CGI.

The fakery was unearthed by a local Chinese newspaper, The Beijing Times, which revealed that a 55-second sequence was created by a visual effects team, which included a series of giant footsteps made by fireworks.

i thought the whole thing was amazing. i thought the drums in the beginning were amazing. i hardly payed attention to the fireworks because i was left thinking about the drums. http://www.nbcolympics.com/photos/galleryid=183797.html

did you see the part when prez bush was checking his watch and looked totally bored? hilarious.
if it had taken place in the US the show would've consisted of confetti and a musical performance by bon jovi.

Young Olympics singing star didn't really sing
Official ruled true singer, 7, wasn't cute enough, so rival lip-synched instead

As they say, the age of conventional warfare is over. It wouldn't be pretty or humane, but we are certainly in a position to put China in a world of pain and woe.

I agree
Our military may be the most advanced in the world but that doesn't mean shit when it comes to the sheer will of the people
If we somehow avoided a nuclear exchange with those people, they would overrun us
You think we have a problem fighting insurgents in Iraq, wait until billions of people all unite against us
You can bet your ass that the US wouldn't have the type of loyalty from its' citizens that the Chinese have
Think how tough Japan was in WWII and multiply that tenfold
Add hunger for oil into that equasion and we would have a fight we can't win

If willing to resort to guerilla tactics, the home team always has the advantage. It depends on who's invading who. I agree that a land war in China (or in Asia in general) is and always has been a risky endeavor. This sort of thing has proven to be suicide for some of the greatest conquering forces of history.

On the flip side, I think that if they (or anyone else for that matter) came to our shores, I suspect you'd find a groundswell of American pride and loyalty that would rival any other nation on the planet. We aren't exactly France here either. We're just lulled by comfort. Shock Americans out of their comfort and you wake the sleeping dog.

I agree to a certain point
However
If we were to be invaded, it would be on the heels of a very strategic set of attacks aimed to knock out the essential aspects of our society
Take away our basic comforts (depending on what you define as comforts) and I am willing to bet that a large majority of people would be willing to sell themselves out to whomever got the jump on us
I do agree that it would be quite messy and there would be a ton of resistance
However, if it was inevitable that we could be controlled, there would be a ton of selfish motherfuckers lining up to receive their reward for falling in line
Anyone who tried to conquer us would obviously use our selfishness against us
The conflict would last quite a long time

Sorry for the super late response on this, but I just have one thing to add:

We whooped China in the Olympics. They may have put on a big fancy show, but at the end of the day our athletes were far superior. Just think of how many more athletes they have to choose from too...
