Post New Dots & New Meat
With the official release date for the new Pink Dots work being tomorrow, Oct 7th 2008, I'm reminded of days gone by when there were rare places I could go to listen to such things while enjoying the company of other human beings who were also so inclined to nurse a drink with their Dots. Or their Swans. Or their Sex Gang. Or their Coil. Or their Dead Or Alive. Ummm, maybe not Dead Or Alive. Yikes. Even the monolithic and gothcliche standards: The Cure, Siouxsie, all things Bauhaus & spawn, etc.

I used to go to The Front on Thursday nights and hear such treasures. Sursumcorda would on occasion dig up the relics and related sounds. Once upon a time when the wind was still and the clouds upside-down, even Hard Mondays would stray from the electro-dance format and play something musty and lovely. (I'm not knocking HM, by any means. It's just that the last few times I've lurked, it's been all techno, which apologetically isn't my thing.)

Over time, as I continue to sleep/wake/sleep/wake/sleep/wake/..., I've faded from scene periphery to nonexistence. I am so far out of the local gothling loop that I was surprised to find myself redirected to this dtc entity. I've signed up to say hello to the neighborhood mopers, miscreants, malcontents, and misanthropes; and, to ask what I've been missing. Are there any new haunts, events, or nights that pre-electro faux-goths such as myself can indulge in some social listening to our antiquated musicks? Drones? Drift? Psyche? All things moody and melancholy? Any safe havens for the devotees of the Dots and denizens of Cloud Zero?

I know where to find the noize, no-wave, stoner, grind, spaz, glitch, dance, and anarcho-folk-singalongs. Wherever, however, has the warm warm gloom gone?

Hi, Gothling/DTC. Nice to meet you again.

We all miss "the day" regardless of where we lived at the time. Time to make that day today!

My first post, and I'm already misunderstood.

Believe me, Noh, I'm involved in plenty now that I'll be nostalgic for in the future. I work to be perpetually nostalgic for five years, ten years, and twenty years previous. Nostalgia gets stale if you're not baking new bread, or feeding the fire, or stuffing the sausage, or spritzing the fern, or whatever analogy you prefer. Actually, even seizing the day gets old if it's a rut itself. Sometimes I need a break from carpe diem. Maybe I'll still seize seize the day to establish control and show the damn day who's in charge, but then I'll let it go. It's kind of a catch-and-release program for existential engagement. But, this gets away from from my initial postjectory, which wasn't meant to express desire for "the day", rather desire for a new facet to "today", which will become a new nostalgia, and lead to a fresh outlook on looking over my shoulder.

My initial question, here distilled: What am I missing (that I would care to not miss) and where can I find it?

I just found the thread for Chamber @ The Bolt (which I believe I was at for the Stuporbowl afterparty earlier this year?).

This is what I have been seeking.

Yay.

I have no doubt you're still charting your own path. Making today "the day" is just how I try to approach things now. It's a play on words: mixing one's roots with the here and now (if that makes sense to you). In terms of what you may be missing: I don't have an answer for you. I believe a plethora of good shows and events are coming up. Rather than what you are missing (I can't answer that), I would be more interested in what you would like to see happen.

Another thread about goth porn?!?

Heh, Chamber (Thursdays @ Bolt Underground) isn't what I'd describe as a "warm melancholy" night, but it's definitely got the best variety of new and old and powernoise and synthpop and everything in between that you can currently hear in public on a weekly basis.

Perhaps if the former Camp Snoopy were purchased and redesigned by Jason McLean, booked by Debridement, and then fitted with a fog machine and poppy fields. I'd like to see that happen.

Which will defintely make me grin, but still leave me wanting for my Camp Snoopy fantasy of one post previous. Foggy dark amusement park of wisps and giggles and stupors and the warm warm melancholy that is a comfort but not a burden, with plenty of soft comfortable places to recline and close one's eyes, while a rollercoaster twists through it all. And The Prophet KaSpel hangs out on the balcony outside of Comedy Sports and orates on Illumina.

I propose the Abomination series.

A night of Coil at Cub.
Lustmord at Home Depot.
Isolationist evening at Target with Lull, Null, & Final.
The grand finale: the complete Nurse With Wound discography played at Ikea over an entire weekend. Half price meatballs.

That'd be wild. Thanks for a great visual. (albeit I don't know Camp Snoopy. From the coast.) Sounds like a great ambience though.

That is beautiful. If it ever happens, I want to see the faces of tourists from Oshkosh before there fat heads explode.

(I have been known to play LPD on my weekly radio show)

Howdy. Funny you should ask, Petey and some others including myself have been making lists and publishing them obscurely. Have a look.
