My intro
I'm manna! I was invited to join the board by a few lovely guests from afterglow's Xmas DoomParty. So here I am!
I am 4 days away from finishing my first year of school at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul. I was raised on heavy metal music and Heavy Metal the movie. That's about all the interesting stuff I think would go good in an intro; but I am a little distracted right now.
I'm glad to be here. See you around!

Re: My intro
Welcome and good luck at CVA. That looked like a good school when I applied to it a few years back.

Oh pfff! In spite of all that, and even without any outside chemical influences, it still made more sense than most anime.
Anyhoo, welcome to gothling!

Thank you!
Heavy Metal Soundtrack- Appendages up.
Heavy Metal 2000- Appendages kinda leaning to the side--It had it's good points (Monster Magnet, Dogs of Vapor song) and its bad (ICP-who's idea was that?)
CVA was great until the new Dean came this fall. Somewhere in Oz, there's a MunchkinLand missing their Wicked Witch!

Barrrfffff.
I was big into Heavy Metal when I was a kid. One of my neighbors was this guy on parole and he taped it off some cable channel we didn't have. Then he just gave me the tape. I watched that stupid ass movie over and over again all through my teens. Stoned or sober, it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
Oh, and Hi, whoever you are.

some of my co-workers used to always quote Heavy Metal to me. as in "You Die. The girl dies. Everybody Dies." and i never got it. lol

Hello, welcome.
As for HM:
I had a cable channel friend taped copy of Heavy Metal too, with softcore porn at the end taped from the same channel.
The soundtrack's cool. It's got Devo on it, for God's sake.

I suppose it's easy to mistake one (HM) for the other (softcore porn). I think the porn might have had more plot, though, and wasn't quite so ugly to look at. Just guessing.

The soundtrack sounds cool - I have a great record of loving anything stamped with the zom-zom seal of disapproval, so I'll have to check it out. The Sammy Hagar song about the "one way ticket to midnight" was a fabulous cheese-terpiece that I love dearly.
oh, and, err, welcome to gothling.

Well, yes and yes. But I don't think that storyline and attractive animation was what they were going for. The film's very much like the mag, an anthology of artists, skilled at their medium and at their ability to visit topics that I guess could be considered "non-trad". I hated the animation when I was young because I didn't know well enough yet to appreciate art merely for the execution and intended meaning rather than my own opinion of it. It's the ugliness of HM that makes it a cult classic.

No, it's really just the gratuitous violence and boobies.
I understand what you're saying, and some of my favorite artists have contributed artwork to the Heavy Metal magainze. But the film hurt me, even more so because I was persuaded to pay $8 for a late-night showing ticket.

I liked the ugliness of HM too - when I was a kid I liked anything that scared me and made me feel kinda sick.
That said, the boobies didn't hurt my enjoyment none.
