Sweet. It's a fresh look.
And I'll have compliments once I get into using it a bit more.

Agreed
I liked how navigatable (is that a word?) the old site was and this one seems to be just as easy
This one, however, is easier on the eyes for sure
I am on a drum forum that uses this format but it is all bright colors
Plus, their forum is hard to log onto
It takes 3 or 4 times logging in (I just "quote" something and it logs me right in)
I have an afinity for this site
It made my time in Mpls more enjoyable
I helped me keep up with that world when I came to Texas
Plus, The Churchboard is really fucking pathetic
Texas gets kinda weird
But it's home
Plus, I met Laura on this board

They don't have to be blue, but you got to bring the boarders back to the home page, it was much easier to read, even if it was a bit... blue.

Can you be more specific? The home page of the site? Of the message board? What boarders?

No. That wasn't our design and we don't have access to that content at all. In fact, we forgot darktwincities.com had even been registered until long after the new site was underway. In fact, I think it was yesterday morning that I figured it out.

Ah yes... I knew we'd run in to that. Can you tell me what browser you are using? I have white text on a dark grey background, but I use FireFox.

Using Firefox (2.0.0.3 Linux) the text is white-on-gray *IF* the field has input focus or the mouse is hovering over it. Other fields are black-on-gray which is nearly impossible to read.
Also, I read all the new posts, came back to the forum, and all the threads (which I'd read) are still marked as having new posts on them. (which is better than some other boards I'm on where visiting ANY thread immediately makes it think I've read ALL of the new posts... but gothling worked flawlessly in that regard so I'm hoping it's just a config setting that got overlooked during the transfer).

Maybe I spoke too soon? NOW they're marked as read... *shrug*. I'll keep an eye on it, maybe was just a glitch.

The forum code is the same as gothling was. The only thing that changed was the visual style and we have a few tweaks to make there. It may be a glitch and I'd love to know if it happens again, but I suspect it was a one-time thing.

OK, I figured it out...
There are two issues that can cause sessions to mess up new topic highlighting.
1) First time users. If you use the site for the first time and you still have a login session from gothling, the session engine gets confused and you get a new session. The second visit shows everything correctly. I can't fix this as it's the cookie in your browser that causes it. Just reload the page.
2) If you visit "www.darktwincities.com" and "darktwincities.com" you may end up with two different sessions. Your highlighted topics may change if you switch back and forth. I will have this corrected sometime today.

no problems with firefox, but with IE 6.0.29, I too get black letters on a dark grey background.

Well, that's the biggest point we want to make. This site is for the community and we want the community to contribute whatever it can to make the site better. If anyone has some knowledge or talent that can improve the site then, by all means, get in touch with us. The more people contribute, the better this site will be. We got the ball rolling, but we want to enlist the assistance of as many people as possible to work on building the momentum.
There are various parts of this site we can't manage to flesh out or perfect on our own.

After it looked like Gothling was going to die last year, the move into the new shinier format is a very good surprise. When the redirect started I thought to myself "Damn, Gothling's dead and right when it was getting interesting again."

We've been working on the new site for some time. We wanted it to come out of nowhere and I guess it worked! The first two hours after the switch there was a glitch in the forum that we could not find. There are a few style and useage issues left, but mostly minor.

Something's still not right with the "remembering which posts I've read" functionality (sessionvar?). As soon as I read one thread, all the other [+] links (indicating there are new posts) take me to a page saying "No new posts since your last visit", at which point I have to remove the "&view=newest" part of the url, reload, and scroll to the bottom of each one manually.
This isn't unusual; the digitalgunfire.com forums have the same problem. But gothling.com always worked right, so I thought I'd ask. (Looks like the urls are all darktwincities.com w/o the "www." prefix)
I haven't tried logging out and back in since your earlier fix. That oughta clear the session; think that would cure it?

If you visit without the www, you will have problems as the board thinks it's name is "www.darktwincities.com"
I will be adding some code to the server to automagically add the www if you visit without it, but probably not for a day or two as I have to fiddle around and make sure it doesn't break anything.

Yeah, I'm going to bring back an avatar library and allow people to upload their own as well. There are some enforcement and testing issues to contend with, but it shouldn't take me too long.

The old avatar gallery is back and old avatar asignments are restored.
Also, avatar uploading is now enabled. You can upload your own avatar image.
