How has the steep rise in gas prices affected you?

I drive about 35-40 miles a day, to and from work. My Saturn has a 10 gallon tank and gets about 35 MPG. I go through a tank of gas about every week and a half. I don't take too many long trips. I'm less likely to take them now.

I do enjoy laughing at people who own SUVs now. Suckers.

Not at all.

Everywhere I needed to or wanted to go still needs to be gone to.

I guess I'm not much of a cruising for fun person. I have a friend who makes a alife out of special trips around the Twin Cities. She must be feeling it.

I get 24-27mpg. It blows. I used to walk to work and the grocery store. My car sometimes didn't move for two weeks. A and I burn up 30-40 miles a day for the two of us to get to work.

One of the things I am looking forward to in coming up to Mpls again is how easy it is to get around on the bus and biking it
Dallas has a horrible mass transit system and everything is really spread apart
I'm looking forward to a 10 minute bike ride within the Mpls city limits
My mini van gets 25/30 mpg so that's not too terribly bad
The drive up is gonna be expensive though because I will have all my drums and PA in the back
I will be disassembling the bike in order to make it fit so I can bring it along

If you think the SUV situation is bad up there then you should come to Dallas
Lots of disposable income means lots of HUGE SUVs and trucks with extended cabs/beds and 4 rear wheels
I can only imagine what those guys pay in gas
Many of them pretty much use their SUVs as traveling offices
Laura couldn't believe how many of them there were

I'm not a big traveler these days, so it hasn't kept me from going anywhere/doing anything. and, I try to drive 55 everywhere already- that's one of the biggest gas saving things you can do.

it sucks because i like to go exploring out of town on the weekends but it costs $35 to fill up my tank. i've had to fill up twice in one weekend and that blew. i need a gas fund separate from everything else. i find myself limiting my driving now. if i use my car just for work i get about 9 days worth of driving on one tank.

Our gasoline is still cheaper than Europe or even Canada.
I have a small car that gets good mileage, I pay, whatever.

While it's true that gas is much more expensive in Europe and always has been, Europeans live in tighter clusters than Americans, and long commutes to work are much more prevalent here. Unfortunately, public transportation just doesn't meet the needs of everyone in this country. Yet.

Add to that the fact that wages aren't increasing at the same rate as the cost of living and you get people bitching.

Of course, that's all it is for now; just people bitching. The prices will continue to rise until people actually stop driving. As long as people pay the prices, they're casting their vote for more gasoline at any price.

I would LOVE to stop driving. that's one of the #1 reasons I want to get back to chicago- it's much easier to rely on public transit there. If I took a bus to work, i thing it takes something like 2.25 hours to get there, and I can't get back at night.

my worst time getting to work on the bus was 3 hours.

i need a car for playing shows, so i went with a mediocre milaged minivan.

i still need my "SCCRM0M" license plate, tho.

Need a cheap car? Do what this guy has done and get a company to pay for it.

Or, maybe you're wondering how much VIAGRA they'll offer you?
